Homes Kept Warm But At A Huge Cost

"The average family is still shelling out hundreds of pounds a year on wasted household energy. No home in the country has achieved maximum efficiency despite a Government drive, a survey revealed yesterday. Barely one in a hundred is rated 82 per cent efficient after improvements such as loft cladding, cavity wall insulation and double glazing - and most are only around 62 per cent. But things may improve as homes sold nowadays must have an energy performance certificate. A spokesman for Halifax Estate Agents, who carried out the survey said: ""People will become increasingly aware of the benefits of making their property more efficient""
