Fury At 'Pathetic' 10% Gas Price Cut

" British Gas was condemned yesterday for a 'pathetic' price cut which saves households just £1.52 a week. The energy giant is knocking 10 per cent off gas bills next month - a drop in the ocean compared to last years 55 per cent hike which added £314 to annual payments. British Gas blamed rocketing wholesale prices but the cost to energy firms has since halved. Electricity is down more than a third but the price for that remians unchanged. Martin Lewis of advice website Moneysavingexpert.com said: "" This is derisory and pathetic. Suppliers Could afford to cut bills by up to 30 per cent."" The cut will shave £79 a year off the average bill. Around 7.5 million customers will benefit. British Gas said: ""This will go some way to helping our customers manage budgets."" Energy Secretary Ed Miliband said: ""It's a good start but we need to see more."" Rivals npower, Eon, EDF, Scottish Power and Scottish and Southern Energy are now expected to drop prices."
